Plant Feature: Rafflesia sp.

Rafflesia sp. is a new find in Antique, Panay Island, Philippines. Its flower measures about 50 cm in diameter. The perigone lobes are 17 x 9 cm. The diaphragm opening is about 10 cm in diameter and is steeply raised. There are about 24-28 processes and the inner surface of the flower is entirely covered with ramenta. The flower is reddish orange with whitish warts in a series of 12 rows.

There are two other species found in the Philippines, i.e. R. manillana in Luzon, Leyte, and Samar and R.schadenbergiana in Mt. Apo, Mindanao.
